Digit SeatbeltHelp build Digit
A free, non-commercial safety initiative

An AI seatbelt
for our children.

Children sometimes use a parent's phone, tablet, or AI account. The assistant may not know a child is speaking. Digit proposes a simple, shared signal to ask for greater care.

“Can I ask Digit?”

A small phrase. A shared goal: help children explore AI with age-appropriate guidance and a trusted adult involved.

A seatbelt, not a wall.

Digit is a proposal for a common child-use signal that participating AI services could recognize. It aims to support learning while adding protections for children using shared devices.

Parent-enabled

A trusted adult sets up protections and controls how the child mode can be turned off.

Easy to understand

A familiar phrase and a clear on-screen indicator help families know when protections are active.

Privacy first

The proposed signal avoids requiring a child to share identity documents or undergo biometric age checks.

What needs to be built

Current status: a proposal. This website does not activate child protections in any AI service. Digit needs development, testing, and adoption by participating platforms. The phrase alone is not a complete safety system and does not replace adult involvement.

Help build something useful.

I am Randi Lyons, founder of the Digit Project. I invite parents, educators, developers, privacy specialists, child-safety experts, and people using AI assistants to help turn this idea into a practical framework.

My goal is free access for families, non-commercial stewardship, and openly available project materials. Collaboration is welcome across platforms.

To contribute, share a suggestion, a concern, or an offer to help develop and test the proposal.
